About this Journal
Welcome to the Queer Graduate and Professional student Association (QGPA)'s blog! As our name says, we're a group of graduate and professional students at the University of Minnesota. During the academic year, we put on a lot of activities, including lunches, social outings to bars and coffee shops, and "Building Bridges," our first annual community fair -- with lunch and dessert provided! If you have ideas to share, come to our weekly business meetings, or post your idea right here.

QGPA is University of Minnesota's Queer Graduate & Professional Student Association. We're here to provide a community and support network for queer graduate students by facilitating discussions, hosting events, and connecting with the greater twin cities queer community.

QGPA is relatively new and we are trying to build an engaged community. Please forward this email along to your friends and colleagues to help us reach out to as many graduate students as possible. We would also like your input. If you have any questions, comments or ideas, please contact your facilitators at qgpa@umn.edu. We are open to new energy and ideas.

Together we can make this a meaningful and active group and create change for queer students at the U of M!

We now have a nifty calendar up and running so that you know when events are (w/o having to scroll through the blog or e-mail). It's at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~qscc/qgpa/calendar/. Nov. 3rd, 2005 @ 11:12 pm Weekly Update
Hi everybody,

QGPA is trucking along nicely, we have a couple of socials to announce and some volunteer opportunities for you.

We are planning a Twin Cities Queer Communities event for early in the Spring semester. This is an excellent opportunity for you to build your own skills and experience, a chance for you to meet people and make some friends you might not otherwise meet, as well as a way for you to contribute to the University of Minnesota's Queer Community. We need people to help with publicizing and organizing the event.

We are also looking into the possibility of tabling with a petition opposing the Minnesota Anti Equal Rights Amendment, organizational pamphlets for other local queer groups, and general educational literature to combat misinformative propaganda.

Please contact Stephen (ulric056@umn.edu) and with your interests.

Contact Stephen (ulric056@umn.edu) with questions.

2. QGPA Lunch noon Tue Nov 8, QSCC (Coffman Room 205)

Bring your lunch and come hang out with us. This is an opportunity to catch up and hang out with your fellow grads. The more the merrier. Contact Stephen (ulric056@umn.edu) with questions.

Nov. 1st, 2005 @ 11:01 pm Notes of interest
The QGPA folks met on Monday and the following highlights are especially noteworthy:

Upcoming Events: Happy Hour, this Friday at Jet Set, at 9pm.

Spring Event: Planning is starting in force! The date, time, and locale have been set (2/10/06, 12-2pm, in the Coffman's President's Room). Responsibilites have been divied up, but we're anxious to have all the help we can get! Please comment here, if you're interested in being a part of the action.

Tabling: We'd also like to start tabling in the Coffman Center basement, to counteract the Christians and reach kids who are opposed to the proposed anti-marriage constitutional amendment. This could be a one-hour commitment every other week; please let us know if you'd be willing to help out.
